I can’t believe I let a month pass before adding pictures of the gardens!
Some of our 70 plus tomato plants have 100 or more blooms…
26 quarts of green beans canned so far…only 74 more to our goal!
Corn, potatoes, field peas and okra are not far behind…

Lots of catch up work in the gardens today because of the two weeks of rain.
The tomatoes would not wait until Alvin got home on the 22. Mom and I started building cages today, just the way Grandpa Beck did many years ago.
There are a few tomatoes on the vines already!
Some of the peas look great, and some are not doing so well. The potatoes are still growing like crazy. May add some pumpkins and water melons soon.
My green house split in two…right down the seam. I hope it can be repaired.

We planted the small garden today. Rainbow tomatoes (extremely small), bush lima beans, two types of cucumbers, green, orange and jalapeno peppers, and pole beans filled up most of the space. We have room for one more row of something. Surrounded it with electric fence to keep the deer out.
Tomorrow, we hope to plant the big garden with tomatoes, okra, corn, bush beans, crowder and field peas. Most will be heirloom.
The potatoes are up!
I have three strawberry plants that need to be put in the ground asap.

Tomatoes are looking sad. They are still too wet! Leaves are turning yellow. I repotted 32 tomato plants in dry soil, hoping they get a better start before they are planted in the garden after Easter. Seems like a lot of work, but I hate to lose them after I’ve already spent so much time trying to get them going.
I also bought a few strawberry plants, New Guinea Impatiens, and begonias. Still want to get some geraniums. My Clematis looks good! I wonder if bougainvillea will grow here..

I feel like I’m in a three ring circus. It’s cold and cloudy outside. Run to greenhouse and turn on heater. Two hours later, the sun is out and it’s hot outside. Run to greenhouse, unzip all the doors and windows, and turn on the fan. Go back, check temperature again. Still too hot. Get tomatoes out of greenhouse, and place in the yard. A few hours later, put tomatoes back in at night.
Today it’s cold and cloudy, so the heater was suppose to be on all day, but when I checked around 6 pm, it was 51 degrees and the heater was off. It had come unplugged at the outlet. I turned it back on, and left most of the plants inside. I did grab the tiny Rainbow tomatoes that barely have their second set of leaves and put them in the house tonight. It is supposed to be 30 degrees tonight.
The tomato plants are growing larger even with their splotches! My heirloom tomatoes don’t look near as big or as pretty as the hybrids at the farmers coop. I sure hope they produce!
The herbs are terrible. None did well. In fact, the cilantro all died. The dill is barely hanging in there, and the oregano is growing so slowly. I used the Jiffy seed starter instead of miracle grow,…

Three kinds of potatoes were planted in the big garden today.

Oh my beautiful tomatoes! What happened today?
Is this the result of being too wet a few days ago?
Flowers are looking good:

I spent the morning in the greenhouse transplanting tomatoes into larger starter trays. I wish I had six inch pots to put them in, but that will have to wait until next year. Or I may buy about 30 this year and the same next year. Right now 72 canning tomato plants are growing. Ten Big Rainbows were started for fresh tomatoes, but only three made it, so I started six more today. This might be good, especially if it will extend the fresh tomatoes a couple of weeks.
Mustard greens were broadcast out by the garlic. I want lettuce, too, must the rabbits will probably eat it. Wish lettuce would grow in the summer with the tomatoes…sigh…
