Feathering the Nest

After a summer of gardening and babysitting, the time has come to finish decorating and settling into our home.  We’ve been here just over a year, but it doesn’t quite feel like home yet.  So, I’ve been enjoying every minute of trying to remedy that. I’ve rearranged and changed the decor in the living room, [...]

Crowing!

Vegas crowed yesterday!  It was so darn cute.  He tried so hard, about five times, and these little crows came out of his little body. The dogs didn’t know what to think!  One started whining and one started barking-they were in shock.  Romeo (just this moment decided to name him this) has not crowed yet.  [...]

After the Flood

Two weeks ago today, we had major dirt work done to build a pad to our new trailer. Then it rained-a lot- for 12 of the next 14 days. But our trailer pad still looks great today: We are very thankful all the dirt did not float down the mountain!

A Rooster in the Hen House

These are my two beautiful buttercups.  See how they both have speckles, which assured me they were both females?  Now look at their heads, and see what happened the past  two weeks!  One of them grew a large comb and wattles!!!!!  No doubt about it…there’s a rooster in the hen house! There have been a [...]

So much going on…

Lots of activity and sick kids!  What a combination.   Quick Updates: Family: Colin was very sick the past three days.  He is aggravating his sister today, so all is well again )!  Alvin has finally adjusted to his new medicine, so he’s not so tired.  The house Krista wanted to rent was leased to someone [...]

Dreams of Organization

I’ve always had a dream that one day I would be an organized person.  The number of planners, notebooks and computer systems I have tried but never really used is actually embarrassing.  I want to use the weekly calendar, but I don’t actually do it. Nope, not monthly calendar either. I thought I wanted to [...]

A Chick and her Chicks (continued)

I can’t believe the changes chicks go through in just four weeks.  Check out this daily photo documentary of the changes in chicks.  It’s amazing.  My baby chicks are almost completely feathered out, like grown chickens already.  That means they are ready for their new coop my husband has been working diligently to build. One [...]

Playing in Suds

I’ve spent the last few days with grandchildren, and when time permitted enjoyed  Little House in the Suburbs.  Ivory and TL (Tomato Lady, I think) have so many fun ideas, and  Ivory is into chicken and goats…just like me!  Last night, I made yogurt per her instructions, and filled my Swiffer wet jet with vinegar [...]

A Chick and Her Chicks

Some time in the last few days I realized 15 chickens were not going to be happy in the extra large  dog crate for much longer. (Originally the plan was 6 chickens and the crate would have been perfect, but it is way too late to talk about that)  So, I drove to my mom’s  [...]

In to Raw

Raw-  Being in a natural condition; not processed or refined (thefreedictionary.com) Forming soap out of oil and lye.   Creating bowls from mud. Grinding wheat and corn to make bread.  Converting milk into yogurt and cheese.  Growing tomatoes from tiny seeds. Gathering fresh eggs from chickens in my yard. Yep, definitely in to raw.  It’s so [...]
